Association for Iron and Steel Technology
In
the past several years, the steel industry has
undergone revolutionary change. From mergers and
consolidations to bankruptcies and legacy costs,
the global developments that have taken place in
the industry have dramatically affected
technical societies that support advancements in
steelmaking knowledge and practices. Two
longstanding societies, the Association of Iron
and Steel Engineers (AISE) and the Iron & Steel
Society (ISS), have now come together to build
an organization that can endure the changes in
the industry while providing unparalleled value
for their combined membership.
The
Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST)
was established on January 1, 2004, with a goal
of advancing the technical development,
production, processing and application of iron
and steel. The best practices of both
predecessor organizations were incorporated into
AIST, and we now have a strong, international,
member-based technical organization that can
sustain itself in an environment of continual
change.
AIST is committed to presenting superior
technical meetings, conferences, exhibits and
publications to better serve those involved in
the iron and steel community, including steel
manufacturers, suppliers, consumers and
academics.
The
AIST Technology Divisions represent all phases
of iron and steel technology. Each Division will
include multiple Operating Committees addressing
related technologies providing forums
facilitating the advancement of the AIST
mission. AIST will begin with the following
eleven Technology Divisions:
1
Iron Producing
2 Electric Steelmaking
3 Oxygen Steelmaking
4 Continuous Casting
5 Rolling and Finishing
6 Process Metallurgy and Product
Applications
7 Process Automation, Control and
Technology
8. Material Handling and Facilities
9 Maintenance and Reliability
10 Project and Plant Management
11 Safety, Energy and Environment
AIST is headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pa. and its
